Aim

At Ryecroft school we aim to prepare our students to become good citizens of the future. Through our curriculum we teach pupils British Values and how to celebrate diversity. We aim to raise their awareness of radicalisation and extremist views, whatever the source. We have adopted the principles and advice found in the Department for Education publication ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ and ‘The Prevent Duty’. These are incorporated into our school policy on tackling extremism.

The Prevent Duty

From 1 July 2015 all schools are subject to a duty under section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015, in the exercise of their functions, to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism”. This duty is known as the Prevent duty and covers 4 areas:
  • Risk Assessment
  • Working in Partnership
  • Staff Training
  • IT Policies
This advice is intended to help schools and childcare providers think about what they can do to protect children from the risk of radicalisation and suggest how they can access support to do this.
The Prevent Duty Guidance can be accessed here: The Prevent Duty
The government set out their definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy.

Please do not hesitate to telephone the school office on 01889 590394 if you require any further information or would like to arrange to visit the school.
